Powertrains and Performance
Batteries
The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a choice of powertrains. These depend on the battery size for the vehicle. The F-150 Lightning XLT features a liquid-cooled 98 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This is located in the truck’s lower frame, which helps shield it from damage while making it easy to access for servicing purposes. This battery pack powers a pair of permanent-magnet synchronous AC motors, one for the front axle and the other for the rear. This gives the truck a 4X4 system. The dual motors deliver 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque on the XLT trim.
The other four trims on the 2025 F-150 Lightning are the Pro Flash, Lariat, and Platinum. These have an extended-range battery. Like the one on the XLT, the extended range models have dual electric motors giving them 4X4 performance with the battery located in the truck’s lower frame. However, this is a larger battery pack, a liquid-cooled 123 kWh or 131 kWh lithium-ion battery. When equipped with this extended range battery, the F-150 Lightning can get up to 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, improving performance and capability.
Range
Unlike conventional gas and diesel-powered trucks, a BEV truck like the Lightning does not have fuel economy measured in miles per gallon. Instead, you will have an estimated range based on the distance your 2025 F-150 Lightning can travel on a fully-charged battery pack. While the range may differ slightly based on your driving style and use of certain features, you should get a range similar to that estimated for the truck. If you choose the XLT trim with the standard range battery, you’ll get a range of up to 240 miles on a fully charged battery. This increases to an impressive 320 miles if you opt for the Lariat model with the extended range battery.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a standard 5.6′ payload bed. This has enough space for up to 52.8 cu.ft. of cargo space. Need more space? The hood on the F-150 Lightning covers a space called a Mega Power Frunk where the engine used to be. In its place is another 14.1 cu.ft. of space for your belongings.
This truck has serious cargo hauling power. The XLT trim with the Standard Range Battery can carry up to 2,000 pounds of cargo, while the other trims with the Extended Range Battery are rated to carry up to 1,800 pounds in the F-150 Lightning’s payload bed.

Each 2025 F-150 Lightning features Pro Power Onboard. This gives you up to 11 outlets with an available 9.6 kW of electricity, depending on the trim level you choose on your truck. This will let you power tools right from the convenience of your truck’s payload bed. It can also come in handy when camping, powering up everything to make roughing it a little less rough.
