2025 Ford F-150 Lightning

The first purpose-built pickup was Ford’s Model T Runabout with Pickup Body, which was introduced in 1925. Here we are 100 years later, and trucks have come a long way from that time. This is certainly true of Ford trucks, with the F-150 being the standard bearer for full-size pickups. This versatile and capable truck is the most popular passenger vehicle in America, with sales that eclipse all other models. So, the question arose over what Ford could do to bring the popular F-150 into the 21st Century. The answer came in 2022, when the brand introduced its first all-electric truck, the F-150 Lightning. Today, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning gives you everything you need in a full-size pickup truck, with all of the advantages of a battery-electric vehicle (BEV).
The Ford F-150 Lightning is the ideal truck for a driver who wants the latest technology, as well as the freedom that comes from no longer having to fill up the gas tank every time you go out for a drive. This is because the F-150 Lighting runs solely on electric power. Just plug it in, charge up the battery, and you are ready to go. Today’s BEVs are not just glorified golf carts. The F-150 Lighting is also a powerful truck with the capability you need, and the speed and acceleration you will love. It also comes equipped with the latest technological advances to keep you safe, connected, and entertained wherever you go.

Powertrains and Performance

Batteries
The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a choice of powertrains. These depend on the battery size for the vehicle. The F-150 Lightning XLT features a liquid-cooled 98 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This is located in the truck’s lower frame, which helps shield it from damage while making it easy to access for servicing purposes. This battery pack powers a pair of permanent-magnet synchronous AC motors, one for the front axle and the other for the rear. This gives the truck a 4X4 system. The dual motors deliver 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque on the XLT trim.
The other four trims on the 2025 F-150 Lightning are the Pro Flash, Lariat, and Platinum. These have an extended-range battery. Like the one on the XLT, the extended range models have dual electric motors giving them 4X4 performance with the battery located in the truck’s lower frame. However, this is a larger battery pack, a liquid-cooled 123 kWh or 131 kWh lithium-ion battery. When equipped with this extended range battery, the F-150 Lightning can get up to 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, improving performance and capability.
Range
Unlike conventional gas and diesel-powered trucks, a BEV truck like the Lightning does not have fuel economy measured in miles per gallon. Instead, you will have an estimated range based on the distance your 2025 F-150 Lightning can travel on a fully-charged battery pack. While the range may differ slightly based on your driving style and use of certain features, you should get a range similar to that estimated for the truck. If you choose the XLT trim with the standard range battery, you’ll get a range of up to 240 miles on a fully charged battery. This increases to an impressive 320 miles if you opt for the Lariat model with the extended range battery.
Speed and Acceleration
Few full-size pickup trucks are known for providing drivers with exceptional speed and acceleration. The Ford F-150 Lighting may be one of those exceptions. When equipped with the extended range battery, the F-150 Lightning can go from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds, making it one of the fastest full-size trucks around. It has a top speed of 110 mph, giving you the speed you need when you have to get somewhere quickly. This is due in part to the fact that a BEV can get the full amount of torque as soon as you put pressure on the accelerator. The result is a truck that accelerates like a sports car.
Charging
Ford makes keeping your F-150 Lightning’s battery charged easy. This is because each truck features a 19.2 kW onboard charger. Just use the Ford Mobile Power Cord and NACS Adapter to plug in and charge it up at home while you are sleeping. You can get a Standard Range battery charged in about 10 hours, while the Extended Range may take a little longer. If you are out on the road, you can stop at any public DC fast charging station that is part of the BlueOval Charge Network. This will allow you to get up to 80% of your F-150 Lightning’s battery charged in as quickly as 32 minutes.
There are other options to keep your truck’s battery charged. The Regenerative Braking System comes standard on the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning. This takes a portion of the kinetic energy released each time you use the brakes and captures it to recharge the battery. You can also use the One Pedal Driving Mode to achieve this. This turns the accelerator pedal into both acceleration and braking. Not only will this improve safe driving, as your truck will brake when you release pressure on the pedal, but it will also improve the efficient performance of your F-150 Lightning, allowing you to get as much range as possible out of the charge.
Capabilities

Towing
One of the main reasons so many folks choose to drive a truck is that they need to tow heavy loads. Maybe you have a trailer you need for work, or you are looking for the capability to tow a boat or camper for some vacation fun. Nothing can match a truck when it comes to trailering capability. With the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning, you get the towing capacity you need in a fuel-efficient electric truck.
The F-150 Lightning XLT with the Standard Range Battery can tow up to 5,000 pounds. If you equip the truck with the available Max Trailer Tow Package, this increases to an impressive 7,700 pounds. However, if you opt for the Flash, Lariat, or Platinum trims that come with the Extended Range Battery, this increases to an impressive 10,000 pounds.
Cargo Capacity
The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a standard 5.6′ payload bed. This has enough space for up to 52.8 cu.ft. of cargo space. Need more space? The hood on the F-150 Lightning covers a space called a Mega Power Frunk where the engine used to be. In its place is another 14.1 cu.ft. of space for your belongings.
This truck has serious cargo hauling power. The XLT trim with the Standard Range Battery can carry up to 2,000 pounds of cargo, while the other trims with the Extended Range Battery are rated to carry up to 1,800 pounds in the F-150 Lightning’s payload bed.
Special Capabilities
There are some benefits to driving a truck that is also a BEV. For one thing, you can use the F-150 Lightning’s battery to operate tools, appliances, and other electrical devices. Each 2025 F-150 Lightning features Pro Power Onboard. This gives you up to 11 outlets with an available 9.6 kW of electricity, depending on the trim level you choose on your truck. This will let you power tools right from the convenience of your truck’s payload bed. It can also come in handy when camping, powering up everything to make roughing it a little less rough.
The Ford F-150 Lightning also has another available feature that works in a similar fashion. Home Backup Power will turn your truck into a standby generator for your home. If you have this feature and are experiencing a local blackout, the truck’s battery will power the lights in your home when the truck is plugged in. In fact, your truck’s battery should have enough charge to power the lights in your home for up to three days.
Technology

Safety and Driver Assistance
The Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 system is one of the most advanced and comprehensive sets of safety features on any truck. This system comes standard on the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning truck. This includes standard BLIS, Ford’s blind spot information system. This will let you know if there is a vehicle traveling in your truck’s blind spot when you back up or go to change lanes. BLIS even has a Trailer Tow Coverage feature that will take into account the length of your truck as well as any trailer that you might be towing.
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control is available on the 2025 Lightning. This helps you reduce driver fatigue when you are on a long haul in your Ford F-150 Lightning. Simply set a speed for your truck and the system will take over, controlling acceleration and even slowing down if it detects a slower vehicle in your path or if you encounter traffic. This is a great feature for limiting driver fatigue while also safely driving your F-150 Lighting on the highway.
Entertainment and Connectivity
Every 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning comes equipped with an infotainment system that lets you and your passengers stay connected and entertained. The Pro and XLT trims come with the SYNC 4 system on a 12-inch touchscreen, while the three other trims have the SYNC 4A with a 15.5-inch touchscreen. You can connect your smartphones using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This will let you make hands-free calls and texts by utilizing the SYNC’s Enhanced Voice Recognition feature. There is also Connected Navigation, which will give you point-to-point directions wherever you want your truck to take you.
You can also stream your favorite music on the 2025 F-150 Lightning. The Flash and Lariat feature the B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen, while the Platinum trim comes with the B&O Unleashed Sound System. These will take your favorite music to the next level, with an audio system designed for the truck’s standard crew cab. Bang & Olufsen is one of the leading audio brands, and these fantastic sound systems will help enhance your enjoyment of each trip you take in your F-150 Lightning.
